WORK WITH A MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH EXPERT

This is Jessica teaching in Ghana.

What parents say about our Middle School Math tutors

Our team includes award-winning Princeton University undergrads and Master’s/PhD graduates who are rigorously screened and are extremely effective at communicating the material.

A quick “case study”:

The parent of a sixth grader at Montgomery Middle School contacted us because his son, typically an A student, started having difficulties in middle school algebra and had received a 75 on his latest test.

The son actually requested the help. The father wanted to try out a couple of sessions before committing to a longer-term relationship.

We matched the student with Jessica, an anthropology major at Princeton University who spent four months in Ghana teaching mathematics to sixth graders.

Here’s what we heard back:

“Ritwik had a wonderful session with you and actually got a 99% on his Math Midterm.

We would absolutely like him to continue meeting with you.”

We receive messages like these every week.

We regularly track progress

Progress reports are shared after every session so you always know what’s going on.

A Real-Life Example:

Student: Zoie
Tutor: Nourhan
Subject(s): General Math – Middle School (excluding Algebra)
Date: 11/19
Time Tutored: 05:30 – 06:30

Material Covered:

Today, we spent the first half of the session reviewing Zoie’s homework and related concepts.

I could see she was having some confusion with identifying coefficients and simplifying expressions, so we redid those parts of the problems and worked through some different approaches to the problems.

Then, we worked on one of her Google Drive worksheets about exponents, and did another worksheet about adding and subtracting integers, in order to solidify her understanding of how to handle different combinations of negative and positive numbers within an expression.

Additional Comments:

I’m confident that with time, Zoie will get the hang of her pre-algebra class! I’m seeing some consistent errors that can definitely continue to be fixed with practice — she has a really solid grasp of most of the underlying concepts!

How is your child performing in Middle School Math?

LEARN HOW WE CAN HELP

Addresses common student issues

A deep understanding of the subject matter allows us to personalize our approach.

Why is Middle School Math important?

Middle school math can range from basic elementary math to higher levels of math usually covered in high school, such as algebra, geometry, or even calculus.

It is important that students develop a good foundation in math before they head into high school. If your child is struggling now, these struggles will be compounded in high school.

And for those students who are taking multiple courses at a time, it’s easy to cover crucial topics too quickly due to the accelerated nature of the courses.

Why do some students struggle with Middle School Math?

Not everybody is naturally good at math. And that’s okay! Sometimes all it takes is somebody to sit down with the student, work at a slower pace, and build up the fundamentals.

We have worked with students at every level, from those who are struggling to those who are competing in math competitions. Some of our students have managed to complete several math courses in a single year.
