A thoughtfully designed program
Our SAT program is based on a deep understanding of the test and how students learn.
Our co-founders, Greg and Kevin, started tutoring the SAT in the early 2000s while undergraduates at Princeton.
Since then, they’ve spent THOUSANDS of hours tutoring the test, have scrutinized every aspect of the SAT, and continue to research and personally teach the test. Just as important is their deep insight into WHAT students struggle with and WHY they struggle.
These experiences and insights inform all aspects of our SAT program, including: our training, our strategies/ methodologies, and our materials.
Addresses 5 common student issues
Skills
The SAT tests a large number of concepts. For example, we break down the SAT Math questions into 150+ skills. To consistently perform well, students must know these foundational skills.
It’s important for students to brush up on exponent rules and proper comma usage, but they also have to know how to apply these skills in trickier SAT-specific scenarios.
Strategy
While strategies won’t make up for a lack of skills, knowing which strategies to use and when to use them will help students save time and improve accuracy.
For example, knowing strategies for the different types of reading passages and question types go a long way towards demystifying the Critical Reading section.
Timing
The SAT is a long test, clocking in at 3 hrs and 50 min (w/ the essay) without any breaks. And it’s relatively fast-paced – 48 seconds per question for the Writing section, 75 seconds per question for the Math Calculator section, etc…
It’s not enough to know the skills and strategies, students must also be able to apply these under timed circumstances, and have the endurance to perform over a long period of time.
Approach
There are a handful of students who are natural test-takers. They either know the material so well and/or have an uncanny ability to dissect the SAT without much effort.
For everybody else, these skills can be learned. How you approach the test and how you create a study plan depends on your level and your specific strengths and weaknesses.
Anxiety
Even the most prepared students can succumb to anxiety on test day. There are certain strategies we employ to help mitigate these effects.
However, there will always be a percentage of students where the anxiety can be severely crippling and result in test scores that do not accurately reflect the student’s knowledge and preparation. For these students, there are still things we can try and test prep is still worthwhile, but we’ll have to be realistic about diminishing benefits and realistic plans moving forward.
How is your child performing in these areas?
LEARN HOW WE CAN HELPLearn from world-class SAT instructors
Our team includes award-winning Princeton University undergrads and Master’s/PhD graduates who have dominated the test and know the material inside-and-out.
But being smart doesn’t necessarily mean you’d be a good teacher.
A great SAT tutor is one who understands your student’s needs and is able to adapt the focus and pace of sessions accordingly.
Furthermore, our tutors are rigorously screened and trained. All have extensive tutoring experience, a passion for teaching, and the ability to connect with students.
Regular updates & a risk-free guarantee
We regularly track progress and keep you informed, which means that you’re never in the dark about your student’s progress.
Timed practice tests are regularly administered to track score increases and to help re-calibrate our approach if necessary.
And while we don’t guarantee a specific score increase (more about that in our FAQs), we have a satisfaction guarantee:
If you’re not happy with any session, the next session is on us and we’ll find another tutor who’ll be a better fit. In the rare case that it still doesn’t work out, we’re happy to refund the unused balance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of score increase can I expect?
Many programs tout the best tutors and average score increases of several hundred points.
Please note that these numbers can often be misleading.
There are many factors that determine a student’s potential score increase:
- Student baseline score
- Previous amount of preparation
- Student work ethic/motivation
- # Hours of tutoring
- Luck
We’ve produced several perfect scorers. We even had a student who was flagged by the College Board for cheating because his SAT scores increased so much.
On the flip side, we’ve also had a small number of students who registered minimal score gains because they didn’t do any work.
Some Additional Numbers:
- Our classes have been extremely effective, receiving an average rating of 9 out of 10 and a 100% recommendation rate from former students
- In a recently completed SAT class (21 hrs of instruction), we saw an average score increase of 154 points and a max score increase of 300 points
- Private tutoring results are generally even more significant
Every student is unique. Our goal is to help each student achieve their personal max scores.
