Hi! My name is Sophia and I hail from Rockaway, NJ (a suburb in northern Jersey). I am currently pursuing an Operations Research and Financial Engineering degree at Princeton University and was the valedictorian of my high school – Morris County’s Academy for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering.
After college, I am planning to pursue a career in finance and investment banking on Wall Street. I like tutoring, because I sincerely enjoy working with other students and I love helping other students to reach their full potentials. I am the oldest child in my immediate and extended family, so I have been unofficially helping my younger brother and cousins with their schoolwork for as long as I can remember. I also have extensive prior tutoring experience. Since I was in the eighth grade, I worked as a math and reading tutor at Kumon Education. Furthermore, I volunteered as a TA for the past four years at the Morris Chinese Academy. There, I worked with mostly elementary school age children to help them master Mandarin Chinese language and culture, and I was so well liked by the students and teachers alike that I was promoted to the Student Executive Board. Additionally, I have developed strong interpersonal skills by working as an ice skating coach for the past year at the local ice rink and a camp counselor for the last four summers at my town’s summer recreation camp for local children in grades K-8.
Math has always been my favorite and strongest subject in school, and as such, I am most comfortable tutoring math, ranging from elementary school all the way up to multivariable calculus. I achieved a perfect 2400 on the SAT, and I would definitely also love to tutor other students on the SAT and the SAT math subject tests. I am a FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) national winner in Business Math.
Outside of academics, I am a competitive figure skater. I have been skating since I was 4 years old and was a member of the Team USA Synchronized Skating Team in high school, and I represented the USA at the prestigious Spring Cup international synchronized skating competition in Milan, Italy in February 2014. I am also a U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist in moves-in-the-field and ice dance. I am now a member of the skating team at Princeton University. Since coming to college, I have become a big fan of running and yoga/pilates. You can frequently catch me on the treadmill or at a PiYo class during my free time!
