WORK WITH A BIOLOGY EXPERT

Hi, I’m Ashley.

What parents say about our Biology tutors

Our team includes award-winning Princeton University undergrads and Master’s/PhD graduates who are rigorously screened and are extremely effective at communicating the material.

A brief “case study”:

One client approached us to help her ninth-grade daughter in biology.

Her daughter was a great student but was struggling with the transition to boarding school. She particularly needed help with study strategies.

We matched her daughter with Ashley, a molecular biology graduate of Princeton University.

After the first session, we received the following message from the student’s mother:

“Mary texted me immediately and said she LOVED the session, thought your examples were incredibly helpful.

Mary loves to see big picture meaning, so all of the context settles well with her.

Feel free to use as much time as will feed her drive.“

We receive messages like these every week.

We regularly track progress

Progress reports are shared after every session so you always know what’s going on.

A Real-Life Example:

Student: Mary
Tutor: Ashley
Subject(s): Biology
Date: 2/27
Time Tutored: 19:30 – 20:45

Material Covered:

I worked with Mary again tonight to help prepare her for her exam on Saturday.

We talked through some of the concepts we discussed last night, and it was great to see Mary develop a firmer grasp on ideas that were unclear to her at first.

I could see that she was focused on explaining her ideas in a structured way, such as by discussing how the structure of an organ or part of the cell related to its function.

Some of the topics we discussed included examples of positive and negative feedback in the body, the relationship between the respiratory and circulatory systems, and how to identify the independent and dependent variables of an experiment.

Additional Comments:

Just like last night, Mary was very well-prepared for the tutoring session. She had a list of questions, a list of learning objectives from class, and old test questions that she wanted to go over.

I was very happy to see her bring questions that she missed on past exams because I believe that taking the time to go through mistakes is one of the best ways to learn and grow.

Assignments for Next Week:

I hope that she feels more comfortable going into this exam and wish her all the best.

I will reach out to Mary to schedule a session once the new semester starts at the end of March, and I look forward to working with her!

LEARN HOW WE CAN HELP

Addresses common student issues

A deep understanding of the subject matter allows us to personalize our approach.

Why is Biology important?

Biology is not just about understanding the world we live in, it’s also a great example of how to apply critical reading skills to learn new knowledge.

While the material and labs can be exciting, it can also be extremely difficult for many students.

Why do some students struggle with Biology?

One of the major reasons our students struggle with biology stems from the sheer amount of material that is covered.

In addition to trying to understand difficult and non-intuitive topics, students must efficiently digest a ton of material in a short amount of time and determine what’s important from the teacher’s perspective. Critical reading skills are just as important in science classes as they are in English class!

Additionally, sometimes our students don’t respond well to the teaching style of their biology teachers.

Common complaints range from “my teacher doesn’t teach” to “the test questions include concepts which aren’t covered during class.”
